Moving down the Okavango river into the central Moremi Game Reserve,we visit the Gadikwe and Gobega lagoons where, from mid September, the breeding heronries amongst the Fig Islands in the lagoons are phenomenal.

Here we visit the woodlands surrounding the Okavango, who play host to a wide range of woodland bird species. From the Cathedral Mopane forest of the Moremi Game reserve, where the Arnots Chat feeds amongst the Mopane litter and Elephant roam in large herds.

With the woodlands behind us, we enter the Kudakiakam grasslands, here on the pan edge, the famous Baines Baobabs stand in tall serenity, home to resident Barn Owls and the occasional Lanner Falcon.

Nearby we visit Nxai Pan, an old relict lake bed of flat open stubby grasses. Kestrels, Black Korhaans and Kori Bustards abound.

Generally, the vast open grasslands of Botswana are regarded as hot dry areas, But in some years the rains arrive in abundance and make dramatic changes to the whole system, resulting in water everywhere. Grasslands become huge lakebeds. Of course, this attracts a whole range of birds. Ducks, waders and other aquatic species in abundance.

We visit the long range of very spiritual hills in south eastern Botswana known as Tswapong….The home of the endangered Cape Vulture and the Black or Verreaux’s Eagle, African Hawk Eagle, Black Sparrow-hawk and a host of other rock dwelling species. 

Our final destination is the fascinating Chobe river in Kasane, regarded as one of Botswana’s prime birding areas. The wide Chobe river with its riverine woodland and forest, hosts many a unique specie as does the surrounding broadleaf woodlands.

It’s an area with a wide variety of vegetation types, ample water and lots of big game, it’s an exciting spot for the enthusiastic birder.

With the magnificent river and an incredible array of bird specie it makes a wonderful ending to the series.

The Kruger National Park is one of the foremost wildlife sanctuaries in the world. With it’s unique atmosphere and it’s spectacular variety of animal and plant species within a sound and vibrant environment, this magnificent conservation area can definitely claim it’s place among Africa’s finest ecotourism destinations.

A magnificent black–maned lion pursues his mate across the red dunes of the Kalahari Desert. This leads to their courtship, and finally, the birth of three male cubs.

Lions of the Kalahari, follows the cubs through seasons of drought and rain, of famine and feast as they face the rigours of survival in this harsh, yet beautiful environment. Deserted by her partner and cubs, the lioness finds an end that is shocking, as it is immutable. Inevitably African.

Life on the savanna travels in herds, packs and prides. Predator mingles with prey. Like ancient wandering tribes, they live off the land……and off each other.

Lions, leopards and cheetahs:
Each cat has its own unique hunting strategy, upbringing and survival technique. We focus on their behaviour and competitive interaction in our quest to discover who the ultimate predator is. We follow their lives as they play out, like a game of battle-chess in the daunting African wilderness.  

Cheetahs of the Linyanti: On Botswana's Linyanti Plains, a band of brothers reigns amongst the top predators: three cheetahs - partners since birth and one of the most efficient hunting forces on the plains…until tragedy strikes. They may be less formidable than the lion, less cryptic than the leopard, and less carnal than the hyena, but wild dogs are none the less the most successful hunters in the African bush. Weighing in at only 20 to 30kg, it is speed, agility and teamwork that allows these smaller predators to regularly bring down prey such as impala, and keep the big predators of the bush at bay!

The matriarch of a wild dog pack has delivered a litter of pups. Now, it is up to the entire pack to ensure their safety. LIONS & HYENAS:

For ages the story of the ancient rivalry between two of Africa’s most bitter eternal enemies has been shrouded in the secrecy of darkness. Each night is like a battlefield as this war of wits plays itself out between the hyenas and the lions of Savute in Botswana.

Dereck and Beverly Joubert have studied and filmed the lions in Savute since 1981. Because of the unique privilege of working at night they have at last been able to bring to the screen the truth about how lions and hyenas behave in the darkness. 

This is the story of one clan of hyenas and one pride of lions as they interact with their neighbours and with each other, surviving each night only by displaying strength and aggression, in what can best be described as a blood feud between two eternal enemies

EYE OF THE LEOPARD is an intimate look at the life of one single leopard from when National Geographic filmmakers and Explorers in Residence, Dereck and Beverly Joubert first found this small cub on her eighth day, until three years later as an adult female. She is a wild leopard hunting the beautiful forests of Mombo on Chief’s Island in Botswana’s Okavango delta, and this story is about her life, her relationship with her mother and her constant battle against the local baboon troop.

It is a story of growing up and of the intricacies of life as a leopard, but mostly it is the story of triumph as this little cat dodges dangers and finally overcomes even the most menacing of her enemies. There is something quite different about her, something other than the unique whisker spot that no other leopard in the world will have… she is a survivor. The film is a testament to the way the Joubert’s work, slowly methodically and with a documentary integrity rarely seen. It is the story of one leopard, Legadema, seen through the Eye of a Leopard, filmed on High Definition and mixed with surround sound from the producers of Eternal Enemies, Ultimate Enemies, Relentless Enemies and a dozen other Emmy Award winning films.

In the early eighties three magnificent male lions marched into Savute in northern Botswana, and the area changed forever. For the next three years they dominated, fighting off other males, mating with the resident females and protecting their pride of lionesses and new cubs against any threat.

One young cub the Joubert's called "Tau" (simply meaning "lion" in Setswana) soon becomes the focus of the story and it is through his eyes that the complex society of a lion pride is revealed. Intermixed with the narration of Keith David, the Joubert's are also heard explaining some of their own feelings while getting to know the lions, living out their lives with them and witnessing the trials and hardships, joys and delights of lion life. 

This intimate story is about the relationship between two passionate filmmakers and the big apex predators they have worked with. Dereck and Beverly Joubert, filmmakers, researchers and National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence have worked with lions in Botswana for over 25 years trying to discover as much as they can about these big cats, unraveling many myths, and unveiling new behavior to science.

Their films Eternal Enemies, Relentless Enemies and Ultimate Enemies have won dozens of awards across the globe and world acclaim. Today though, they change gears and set out to study a different cat. They struggle to adapt to the new habitat, a different pace, and a very elusive cat challenges their resolve. But when they find a leopard of 8 days old their lives change. As they follow the cub and her mother, two wild leopards in the Mombo area, a special kind of bond starts to develop between the humans and these elusive cats.  

Zebras leave their trails across 300 km of grassland in Botswana on a yearly migration that begins with the first rains. At first the hazards of huge herds migrating together is daunting enough but at each phase of the migration more and more of their vulnerable lifestyles is revealed. 

Silent language, gentle demeanour and a race against the elements to survive the ebb and flow of Northern Botswana's seasons is what seems to make elephants here what they are. While the species is becoming endangered elsewhere in Africa Botswana's herds are thriving and provide the ideal situation for this film; an open range of many thousands of elephants. 

Relentless Enemies: Lions and Buffalo is a beautiful film about the story of one pride of lion and one herd of buffalo isolated on an island in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The film shows, in intimate detail, the struggles between these two enemies and the extreme hunting of lions in this deep swamp water. It also tells the story of this pride's own struggle within their group, a battle that could endanger the survival of the whole pride of lions. So this is a race to survive by both the buffalo and the lions that hunt them so relentlessly.

It is the third of a trilogy that started for the filmmakers, Dereck and Beverly Joubert, with Eternal Enemies and then Ultimate Enemies, all three now, about the extreme relationships that lions have with three different counter species, that reveal a more in depth layer of lion life than ever before seen.

This is the intimate story of hope in Africa, and it surrounds the up and down tale of rhinos in Botswana. In the 1990’s the Botswana Defense Force launched a massive military action to stop poaching and this marked the turning point in rhino conservation there, as they are gathered up as a national effort and secured, then brought back to the wild.

It covers new behavior, adventures with lions, hyenas and elephants but it solves one of the great mysteries about rhinos, and why they move away from where they are introduced, and what they go in search of.
